Servsafe Food Manager Certification

 ServSafe ® is a food safety program providing high-quality food safety management certification, education and training materials for the restaurant and foodservice industry. It is recognized and accepted by more federal, state and local jurisdictions than any other food safety program.
 
Many Family & Consumer Sicence instructors are adopting food safety program across the state. ServSafe is a way to enhance any program related to foodservice. It is recommended that the individual be ServSafe certified to teach the ServSafe program. For this reason, TRAEF offers:
·         ServSafe training each year at the State Professional Development Conference for Family & Consumer Sciences Teachers
·         Online certification which incorporates Servsafe training
·         Certified testing locations in each of the metropolitan areas (Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, or Austin)
·         Servsafe classroom at any Acemart Restaurant Supply as part of a partnership with Acemart
·         A discounted rate to teachers on all Servsafe products ordered through TRA

Servsafe Starters Employee Guide, Texas Foodhandler Permit Program

Servsafe® Employee Guide is a basic safety and sanitation food handler program that can easily be integrated into any beginning Nutrition Food Science or introductory culinary arts program. Sections can be completed in approximately 10 minutes and are color coded for easy reference. Ideal for students with special needs and/or students who may not be qualified to take the more rigorous Servsafe Certification program, the Servsafe Employee Guide includes a Certificate of Completion that can be taken to your local health department to obtain foodhandler permit.

The ServSafe Starters Employee Guide is a Texas Foodhandler program accredited by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Does this take the place of Servsafe Food Manager Certification?
Absolutely not. The Starters Guide is ideal for teaching the very basic safety and sanitation principles and is ideal for hourly wage employees working in the foodservice industry. The Servsafe Food Manager Certification is a nationally recognized certification and will allow the student to obtain a Food Manager Certification, hence providing them greater marketability. 
 
 



 SERVSAFE FACTS

  • FS Prep is the only high school culinary curriculum that offers ServSafe Certification
  • Students are eligible to take the ServSafe exam
  • Instructors must be ServSafe certified to the teach course
  • ServSafe can be offered by local universities depending on the city
  • Certification is good for 5 years. After 5 years, the students can take continuing Education units and submit them every 5 years
  • The TRA Education Foundation offers Servsafe teacher training
  • Once exam is passed, the individual can take certification to their municipal health department. They will charge a small fee, depending on city.
  • Any school can incorporate ServSafe Certification Training within a classroom setting
