Austin, Texas – The Texas Restaurant Association today announced that the Texas restaurant industry is projected to register modest gains in sales growth in 2010 according to the National Restaurant Association’s 2010 Restaurant Industry Forecast. Texas is projected to see sales of $34.8 billion, a 2.7% increase over 2009. Restaurants in Texas will employ 996,300 Texans, a slight decrease from 2009. However, Texas is projected to post the strongest growth in employment over the next decade, growing 16.4% to 1,159,800 employees.
“This has been a challenging year for Texas restaurateurs as effects of the economic downturn were felt across the state,” said Richie Jackson, Texas Restaurant Association CEO. “The good news is that we still see positive overall growth, albeit at a lower level than in years past.”Nationally, restaurant industry sales are expected to reach $580 billion in 2010, a 2.5 percent increase in current dollars over 2009 sales. When adjusted for inflation, 2010 sales will show a 0.1 percent decline, which is an improvement over the 1.2 and 2.9 percent negative growth in real sales that the industry experienced in 2008 and 2009, respectively.“It has been a very challenging time for our industry for the past two years, and while there are still challenges ahead, we are glad to report that the outlook is improving,” said Dawn Sweeney, President and CEO of the National Restaurant Association. “With a total economic impact of more than $1.5 trillion, the restaurant industry is a strong player in the economic recovery and will continue to provide consumers with the choice and convenience they want.”In addition to containing a national, regional and state-by-state sales and employment outlook, the 2010 Restaurant Industry Forecast provides details on the latest economic, consumer, menu, operator and workforce trends. Austin, Texas - The Texas Restaurant Association Political Action Committee (TRAPAC) met on Tuesday, November 10 and voted to support Justice Jim Moseley for the Texas Supreme Court.
“We are proud to support someone whom the members of the Texas Restaurant Association know and trust for the highest court in Texas”, said Richie Jackson, TRA executive vice president/CEO. “I’ve known Justice Moseley for many years, dating back to when Jim was still in private practice when he represented some our clients in various situations. I have no doubt that as a member of the Texas Supreme Court, Justice Moseley will rule fairly and consistently on matters important to all Texans.”
Justice Moseley’s experience is unmatched by any of the other candidates for this position. Moseley was appointed to the Fifth Court of Appeals in Dallas in 1996 by Governor Bush. Since then he has written over 1,000 opinions dealing with all areas of civil and criminal law. He was the highest rated appellate justice (of 13 on his court) in this year’s Dallas Bar Association judicial evaluation poll, with 89% rating his overall performance excellent or acceptable. This is a remarkable number, considering that roughly half of the attorneys appearing before him will be disappointed in the outcome.
Before joining the court, Moseley practiced nine years with the Dallas-based firm of Locke Purnell Rain Harrell (now Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell). From 1983 to 1987, Moseley served as Regional Director of the Federal Trade Commission's Dallas Regional office. There he was responsible for enforcing federal antitrust and consumer protection laws in Texas and four surrounding states.
Moseley is a native Texan, born and raised in Eastland County. He received his undergraduate and law degrees from Baylor University. He resides in Coppell with his wife of 26 years, the former Marian Bentley of Burkburnett. They have two children--Becky, a second-year law student at the University of Chicago, and Jimmy, a junior at Texas A&M.
