Wylie High School Receives ACF Accreditation
FS Prep Schools Win all over the state!
John Jay High School wins FCCLA Hospitality Event
Instructor Timothy M. "Chef" Kelly led John Jay High School culinary arts students to take 1st place at the FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) conference held in Dallas, April 11 - 14, 2007. Michelle Lopez, Monica Martinez, Michelle Lopez, and Reyna Martinez received a four year renewable $1000.00 Scholarship to the acclaimed Johnson & Wales University, a plaque and a gold medal. Students will also receive a trip to the FCCLA National Competition In Anaheim, California to compete in FCCLA National Championship Competition. (confirm national competition)

John Jay High School Culinary Arts Students demonstrated their cooking skills and creative technique to the general public in March at the AceMart Restaurant Supply annual “Open House” event for their customers. For the 3rd year in a row, John Jay High School Culinary Arts I, Culinary Arts II and Culinary Arts III students have received the distinguished honor of being invited to show off their skill by preparing a variety of delicacies to serve to AceMart customers as part of the “Open House” celebration.
John Jay Culinary Arts was also featured on March 9 on the Channel 41 - Univision news.
FS Prep Schools win big at the 'Skills USA: Champions at Work' State Conference
Instructor Steve DeShazo led culinary students to win state at the Skills USA Conference on March 28 – 31, 2007. Chris Labonte and Chris Lewis of Wylie High School won the culinary arts competition at the "SkillsUSA: Champions At Work" State Conference.
Last year, Wylie High School students Matt Molesworth and Kendal Scott took the Gold Medal winning first place won the Southwest Foodservice Expo Rising Stars High School Culinary Competition.
Culinary Arts student, Robert Wagstaff of Southwest High School won Food and Beverage Services competition under the leadership of Olivia Matyear at the Skills USA Conference. Good Luck at Nationals!
Bowie High School students participate at the Texas Hill Country Wine and Food Festival
Under the supervision of FS Prep teacher Richard Winemiller, culinary arts students from Bowie High School assist the Texas Beef Council at the 2007 Texas Hill Country Wine and Food Festival Sunday Fair in Georgetown, Texas on April 1, 2007. Students were involved in food preparation and operations of the Texas Beef Council Competitions.
Westside High School is highlighted on the ABC Local News in Houston in April
The purpose of the visit was to highlight the café that the students have been successfully running for the last year and a half. The Outback Steakhouse, one of TRA Education Foundation’s Entrepreneur 101 programs, is open 3 days a week and serves 50 or more meals a day. ABC interviewed students about their experiences and what they aspired to do after graduating from high school. Instructor Chelsea Barton, originally an Outback Steakhouse employee, has been with Westside High School for over three years and runs a top notch program!
The Entrepreneur 101 (E-101) program is a high school program that utilizes a school-based restaurant to teach the students entrepreneurial skills and how to own and run a business. As part of the E-101 program, students will undertake responsibility as the owners and operators of this business with the assistance of experienced business professionals and educators.

Updates coming soon from the TRA Education Foundation
The TRA Education Foundation has great new resources in store for educators. In the spring of 2008, TRAEF will launch a 3rd Edition FS Prep culinary curriculum. Look for new information to be added to the 'Making the Transition' guide this fall. The guide will include helpful information for school districts building out culinary programs.
Also, stay tuned for updated information regarding the 2nd Annual High School student culinary competitions held at the Southwest Foodservice Expo.
New this fall, the TRA Education Foundation and the Texas Beef Council will launch a second culinary conference for high school teachers hosted by the Art Institute of Houston. The 'Culinary Summit' will take place on October 18 and 19, 2007. The 4th Annual Culinary Educators Conference will be held July 5-7 in Austin.

TRA Education Foundation Celebrates Dedication of Emmett J. Conrad High School
Emmett J. Conrad High School, site of the third E 101 program, was opened to students for the 2006-2007 school year. Located in northeast Dallas the new school is 325,000 square feet, and includes 46 core classrooms, an art classroom, a science classroom, space for performing and visual arts, an instructional technology classroom, a media center, and outdoor athletic fields.
The school will feature the TRA Education Foundation’s Entrepreneur 101 program which is a full-service restaurant that enables students to gain hands-on experience in many aspects of food service. This E101 program is a joint venture of Dallas ISD, the TRA Education Foundation, the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association, and Outback Steakhouse. A dedication ceremony was held at the school on October 22 and the E 101 facility will open in the fall 2007.
